Sunday, August 5 was the second and last day of the Transmission of the General Chapter for the Mindanao-Visayas communities, given by Sr. Mary Sheryl, Sr. Irene Cecile and Bubut Neri. It was most renewing, compelling us to live with more zeal and enthusiasm, so the celebration of Sr. Mercy’s 25th Jubilee was a very fitting conclusion of the weekend.
The presider was no less than Sr. Mercy’s older brother, Fr. Camillo Ongsit, who came all the way from Baguio.
Introduction read by Sr. Irene Cecile
We are gathered her today for the Eucharistic Celebration of the 18th Sunday of the Year and for the Silver Jubilee of Sr. Mercelita Eugenia Saclud Ongsit.
Twenty five years ago Mercelita Eugenia of the Annunciation offered her life to God to follow Jesus Christ in the Religious of the Assumption. We might ask, “What made Sr. Mercy say Yes to Religious life?”.
The 1st Reading today reminds us of God’s fidelity in our journey. ((Exodus 16: 2-4, 12-15) He is a God of Providence, the God whom Sr. Mercy encountered, raining down blessings upon blessings in her life, with her family, with the Religious Communities, and in her mission. Like Mary, she said “YES” to God’s call and plan in her life.
As we join Sr. Mercy in her renewal of vows, let us claim God’s blessing on each one of us, as St. Paul says in his letter to the Ephesians, “Be renewed in the Spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of the truth”. (Ephesians 4: 17, 20 – 24)
