Bridging Cultures: Deepening the Assumption Family Spirit (Assumption Learners Exchange Program)
From August 19 to September 2, 2023, Assumption Iloilo extended a warm welcome to a group of Japanese learners from Assumption Kokusai, Osaka, Japan as part of an Assumption Learners Exchange Program. Accompanying them were Miss Cecile Adrias, our former English Teacher here, now, an English teacher at Assumption Kokusai, and Miss Naomi Tanzawa, the school’s principal. The primary aim of this exchange program was to foster an environment where the Assumption Spirit could flourish in both school communities.
During their two-week stay in Iloilo, our Japanese learners had the opportunity to join different classes as well as immerse themselves in the local culture.
They were introduced to various heritage sites within the city and had the privilege of being hosted by local families, allowing them to experience Filipino culture in a family setting.
A special evening with the sisters featured a delightful tea ceremony honoring Sr. Fe’s birthday, further deepening their cultural experience.
Despite challenging weather conditions, they continued to explore, visiting Assumption Passi and Assumption Barrio Obrero.
A memorable program marked the culmination of their stay by participating in our Filipino Week Celebration. Alongside Miss Naomi Tanzawa, our Japanese learners learned and performed a traditional Filipino dance on their last day, captivating the audience with their impressive performance.
The experience left an indelible mark, offering a truly enriching cultural exchange, deepening the family Spirit which is our gift in the Assumption.
