To our dear Assumption School Passi Community, greetings of joy and peace on your 50th Foundation Anniversary!
“Come and see what God has done.”(Ps 66:5) Your Jubilee theme aptly captures the spiritual and historical journey of Assumption Passi. As we “come and see what God has done,” we remember the past with gratitude, we celebrate with joy and thanksgiving the present and we continue to believe in His plans “to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer 29:11)
Fifty years ago, Assumption came to Passi, Iloilo, upon the request of the then Auxiliary Bishop of Jaro, Msgr. Jaime Sin to Mother Marie Denyse, Superior General, to establish Assumption’s third foundation in Iloilo Province. On July 6, 1969, with the first three Assumption sisters, Sr. Ma. Paz de Moreta, Sr. Filomena Maria Edullan and Sr. Magdalena Golez (I am sure that she is smiling at us from heaven…), classes started with 68 children for prep school.
“Sing for Joy” recounts the story of how the sisters also took an active part in the social development of the people in the town and the nearby barrios such as family development program, Christian formation and pastoral care.
As we look back to our humble beginnings, we recognize that this is entirely God’s work. Throughout the years, God sent us courageous, dedicated and hard-working lay partners who continue to make the vision of St. Marie Eugenie into reality. We acknowledge with gratitude the leadership of Dr. Belinda Panes, Mrs. Stella Tagnong and the generous and unstinting support of the faculty and staff.
In tenderness and love, God nurtured and sustained the School community in its mission of transforming lives and society through Christian education. Assumption School Passi has been instrumental in forming young minds and preparing them to become responsible citizens who made a difference in society.
Today, as we mark this milestone in the life of the School community, we proclaim the greatness of God and His fidelity these past 50 years. Indeed, how awesome are His deeds! As the only Catholic and private School in the city of Passi that offers transformative education for the holistic formation of every child from Prep to Grade 12, you are challenged to continue to break new frontiers at the service of life for “love never says, ‘It is enough.’”
Today, we remember with gratitude, we celebrate with joy and we continue to believe in God who makes all things possible. Sr. Lerma Victoria, r.a. Provincial Superior, Asia Pacific Province
